Technology, Creativity & the Craft of Recording

This is one of my favorite areas to explore—where problem-solving meets pure creativity. I have many years experience using music technology and I’ve been fortunate to learn directly from some of the most respected minds in recording and production.

I’ve had mentor-level relationships with Rupert Neve, whose consoles set the standard for audio excellence, and Geoff Emerick, whose groundbreaking work with The Beatles continues to shape modern engineering. Their insights heavily influence how I approach sound, workflow, and the artistic possibilities within the studio.

* Analog/Digital? – I have experience with both.

* Choosing a DAW – There are many choices involving different work flows and auxiliarry equipment. Musical styles will often dictate which DAW is appropriate.

Mixing – A professional mix is all about balance. I’ve had many years of experience delivering mixes in all formats.

* Mastering – Putting on the ‘gloss-coat’ to a project. The better the tracking and the mixing, the less mastering is needed. And, when should you master a track? I have my own take on this.

* Correct microphone – A great instrument and the correct mic should ideally require little or no EQ. I can guide you to getting a good sound.

* Room Treatment – A serious look at your recording environment and how to effectively treat your sound space.
